Terms of Use

By connecting to the wireless network facility (the Service), you acknowledge that you have read and understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions of Use.

The wireless network service is provided by Cornwall Council and is completely at their discretion. Your access to the network may be blocked, suspended, or terminated at any time for any reason.

Children under the age of 13 can only use the Service when accompanied and supervised by an appropriate adult. Managing and monitoring access to the internet by children is the responsibility of the child’s parent, carer or legal guardian.

You agree not to use the Service for any purpose that is unlawful or otherwise prohibited and you are fully responsible for your use.

You acknowledge your use of the Service is entirely at your own risk. Cornwall Council does not guarantee the availability, speed or security of the Service. Wireless Internet access is inherently not secure; you are responsible for adopting appropriate security measures when using the Service, especially if conducting confidential transactions.

You are accountable for all activity that occurs under the account you have registered. Do not divulge your account name or password to anyone. If registration is requested, you must provide accurate and complete information.

Cornwall Council may revise the Terms and Conditions at any time. It is your responsibility to review them for changes.

The Council collects information on your usage of this service including Internet browsing activity which is routinely monitored for inappropriate activity. Internet browsing activity carried out on the Service cannot be deemed private.

Cornwall Council reserves the right to remove, block, filter, or restrict any material that may be illegal, unsuitable, or in violation of these Terms and Conditions.

2. Use of the Service

  • No software or hardware support is provided to a guest user of the Service.
  • It is the end user’s responsibility to ensure the device has appropriate security. Anti-virus and anti-malware provision are the responsibility of the user. Keep applications updated and apply security patches.
  • It is not acceptable to use the Service for (but not limited to):

2.3 Prohibited Uses

  • Creation, display, downloading, transmission, searching or printing of offensive, obscene, pornographic or indecent material.
  • Material likely to cause annoyance, inconvenience, anxiety, threats or the promotion of violence.
  • Defamatory or discriminatory material, especially promoting religious or racial hatred.
  • Transmission or downloading of copyrighted material without rights.
  • Transmission of unsolicited commercial or advertising material.
  • Unauthorised access (“hacking”).
  • Viewing of live TV broadcasts (Council premises are not licensed).
  • Deliberate activities including:
    • Introducing viruses or malware.
    • Accessing another person’s computer, account, files or data without permission.
    • Circumventing or subverting security measures.
    • Running programs to identify loopholes, decrypt data or gain unauthorised access.
    • Obtaining restricted passwords or access control data.
    • Forging the identity of a user or machine.
    • Overloading network or computer resources to prevent others’ use (e.g., denial of service).

Illegal violations or activities causing loss or damage to Cornwall Council will be referred for legal action or to the police.

Cornwall Council may disclose personal or usage information to authorities in investigating suspected crime.

Violations may result in suspension or termination of access.

3. Disclaimer

  • Cornwall Council cannot accept liability for any loss or damage resulting from use of the Service, including direct, indirect, punitive, consequential loss or damages, income, profits, goodwill, data, contracts, money, or business interruption, however caused.
  • This does not affect liability for death or personal injury from negligence, fraud or other non-excludable liability under law.
  • Cornwall Council accepts no liability for the accuracy of information accessed via the Service.
  • Cornwall Council cannot accept responsibility for transactions carried out by the public.

4. Privacy Policy

All personal data submitted by users of the Service will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Cornwall Council stores for three months your registration and connection details including:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • IP address
  • Activation and last login dates
  • Device information (MAC address, type, name, operating system)

Internet browsing activity logs are stored for one year.

5. General

  • English courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any claim related to this service. These terms are governed by English law.
  • Headings in these Terms and Conditions are for convenience only
