Key facts at a glance

  • Your Parish Council supports children and young people in several ways, including play areas and outdoor spaces, grants to local organisations, library and outreach activities, volunteering and work-experience opportunities, and the Parish Youth Project.
  • The Parish Youth Project is delivered in partnership with Young People Cornwall and has been running since 2015.
  • The service is specifically for children and young people living in the Parish only and has supported more than 2,000 young people.
  • It provides regular safe sessions, activities, mentoring and individual support from qualified youth workers.
  • The project costs approximately £39,000 a year. The Parish Council currently contributes £5,000, with the remaining cost previously met through external grants.
  • The main National Lottery funding has not been awarded for 2026/27! If sufficient alternative funding is not found, the service may have to reduce or cease.
  • If the Council had to fund the whole Parish Youth Project, the additional cost would be approximately 79p per month for a Band D property. Lower Council Tax bands would pay less; for example, the estimate for a Band B property is approximately 62p per month.

Did you know? There are more Bands A – C properties in the parish, than Bands D – H.

A local example: finding confidence and belonging

A young person living in the parish had been struggling with confidence and finding it difficult to make friends. After beginning to attend Parish Youth Project sessions regularly, and with support from the professional youth workers, they made new friendships, grew in confidence and became more involved in community activities.

“They now look forward to attending every week and have found a place where they feel they belong.”

Your Parish Council has not made any decision about the future funding of the Parish Youth Project or whether its financial contribution should increase. The Council is consulting residents before making a decision. We welcome everyone’s views. Survey responses will be considered alongside affordability, opportunities for external grant funding and the Council’s other priorities before any decision is made.
